Mutation Flashcards
Explain silent mutation
A mutation that has no effect on the codon or protein
Lost of function and gain of function
Lost of function: the protein has no existing function.
gain of function: The protein has a new function
Missense mutation
amino acid change and interacts differently by certain conditions
nonsense
it just doesn’t make sense has a start codon but a end codon after
frameshift mutations
amino acids change beyond the point of insertion. add or subtract nucleotides.
Deletion
Deletes part of a sequence in a chromosome
Duplication
make a duplicate pair or mismatch in homologous chromosomes.
Inversion
switch between letters inserted in a different order
Reciprocal translocation
switched/ added sequences that is formally on one chromosome but just somewhere else.
Point mutations.
temporary mispairing can lead to fundamental changes.
