Osteoporosis
Decreased bone mass that often occurs in middle aged women
Tx- hormone replacement therapy, increase calcium, weight bearing exercise, weight loss
Scoliosis
Deviation of spine to side
Tx- brace or surgery
Lordosis
Excess cur age of lumbar spine (swayback)
Tx- surgery may be done
Kyphosis
Excess curve of thoracic spine (hunchback)
Tx- bracing
Osteoarthritis
Wear and tear on joints causing pin, stiffness, swelling
Tx- medical treatment with anti-inflammatory drug, assistive devices, exercise, joint replacement
Rheumatoid arthritis
Stiffness, swelling and pain in joint due to autoimmune disorder
Tx- medical treatment, drug therapy, acupuncture
Bursitis
Swelling of the fluid sac cushioning joint
Tx- avoid pressure on joint, medication, aspiration
Gout
Collection of Uric acid crystals in joint causing pain and swelling
Tx- low purine diet, allopurinol
Muscular dystrophy
Hereditary. Poor developed muscles
Tx- physical therapy, braces
Torticollis
Wry neck
Spasm of the sternocleidomastoid muscle
Tx- heat, antispasmodic drugs, physical therapy
Atrophy
Wasting of muscle
Tx- exercise or range of motion exercise
Cleft palate
Congenital deformity in roof of mouth due to failure of maxillary bone to fuse
Tx- surgery
