Muscles Week 9 Flashcards
What is the origin of the Teres Major?
Inferior, lateral border of scapula
What is the insertion of the Teres Major?
Medial lip of bicipital groove of humerus (medial to latissimus)
What is the action of the Teres Major?
Medial rotation and adduction of shoulder
What nerve innervates the Teres Major?
Lower subscapular nerve
What is the origin of the Serratus Anterior?
Ribs 1-9 (lateral surface)
What is the insertion of the Serratus Anterior?
Anterior medial border of scapula
What is the action of the Serratus Anterior?
Protraction (abduction) and upward rotation of scapula
What nerve innervates the Serratus Anterior?
Long thoracic nerve
Winging of scapula can occur if long thoracic nerve is damaged.
What is the origin of the pectoralis major?
Clavicular fibers: medial ½ of clavicle; sternal fibers: anterior sternum; costal fibers: costal cartilage of ribs 1-7
Where does the pectoralis major insert?
Lateral lip of bicipital groove of humerus
“a lady between 2 majors”
What is the action of the pectoralis major?
Adduction and medial rotation of shoulder; horizontal adduction of shoulder
Also used in push-ups, bench press, throwing
What nerves innervate the pectoralis major?
Medial and lateral pectoral nerves
What is the origin of the coracobrachialis?
Coracoid process of scapula
Where does the coracobrachialis insert?
Medial shaft of humerus (middle 1/3)
What are the actions of the coracobrachialis?
Flexion and adduction of shoulder
Horizontal adduction of shoulder
What is the innervation of the coracobrachialis?
Musculocutaneous nerve
Which muscles attach to the coracoid process?
Short head of biceps, coracobrachialis, and pectoralis minor
