Muscles of the Shoulder Joint Flashcards
Function of Subscapularis?
An anterior rotator cuff muscle
Stabilises the glenohumeral joint)
Medially rotates and adducts the humerus
Origin of Subscapularis?
Subscapular Fossa (Medial 2/3)
Insertion of Subscapularis?
Lesser Tubercle of Humerus
Innervation of Subscapularis?
Upper and Lower Subscapular Nerves
Subscapularis test?
Lift Off Test (lift hand with dorsal side on back posteriorly)
Supraspinatus Function?
A posterior rotator cuff muscle
Abducts the arm through first 15 degrees (only muscle capable of doing this)
Origin of Supraspinatus
SUPRASPINOUS FOSSA of Scapula (Medial 2/3)
Insertion of Supraspinatus
Superior Facet of Greater Tubercle of Humerus (Sits)
Innervation of Supraspinatus?
Suprascapular Nerve
Supraspinatus test?
Abduct the arm against resistance from 0 degrees
Infraspinatus function?
A posterior rotator cuff muscle
Laterally rotates the arm at the glenohumeral joint
Origin of Infraspinatus
INFRASPINATOUS FOSSA of Scapula (Medial 2/3)
Insertion of Infraspinatus
Middle Facet of Greater Tubercle of the Humerus (sIts)
Innervation of Infraspinatus
Suprascapular Nerve
Infraspinatus test?
Laterally rotate against resistance
Elbow flexed and arm abducted
Function of Teres Minor
A posterior muscle of the rotator cuff
Medial rotation and extension of the arm at the glenohumeral joint
Origin of Teres Minor
Lateral Border of Scapula (Middle part)
Insertion of Teres Minor
Inferior Facet of Greater Tubercle of Humerus (siTs)
Innervation of Teres Minor
Axillary Nerve
Test for Teres Minor
Same as Infraspinatus muscle
Function of Teres Major
A short scapula muscle but DOES NOT contribute to the rotator cuff.
Medially rotation, abduction and extension of the humerus.
Origin of Teres Major
Inferior Angle of Scapula
Insertion of Teres Major
Intertubercular Sulcus (anterior humerus)
Innervation of Teres Major
Lower Subscapular Nerve
