muscles of the popliteal fossa Flashcards
What is the muscles of the popliteal fossa?
popliteus M
Plantaris M
What is the origin and insertion of the popliteus muscle?
Origin: lateral surface of lateral femoral condyle, posterior horn of lateral meniscus
Insertion: posterior/medial tibia above soleal line (not to soleal line)
What is the innervation popliteus muscle?
tibial nerve (L4, L5, S1)
What is the action of the popliteus muscle?
:flexion and medial rotation of leg at knee; with foot fixed, rotates femur laterally
to unlock knee and begin flexion.
Also active in other phases of step cycle, for reasons that are not yet well understood
What is the origin and insertion of the plantaris Muscle?
Origin: proximal to gastrocnemius lateral head
Insertion: calcaneal tuberosity via Achilles tendon
What is the innervation of plantar is Muscle?
tibial N (S1, S2)
What is the action of the plantar is muscle?
negligible flexion of knee and ankle; might prevent compression of posterior leg mm during knee flexion
