Muscles of the arm Flashcards
Origin of biceps brachii muscle
- Long head – Supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula
- Short head – Apex of the coracoid process
Insertion of biceps brachii muscle
Radial tuberosity
Action of biceps brachii muscle
- Flexion at the elbow joint and supination in the forearm
- Flexion and adduction at the shoulder
Innervation of biceps brachii muscle
Musculocutaneous nerve
Origin of coracobrachialis muscle
Apex of the coracoid process
Insertion of coracobrachialis muscle
Medial surface of the humerus, along the midshaft
Action of coracobrachialis muscle
Weak flexor at the shoulder joint
Innervation of coracobrachialis muscle
Musculocutaneous nerve
Origin of brachialis muscle
Distal half of the anterior surface of the humeral shaft
Insertion of brachialis muscle
Ulnar tuberosity
Action of brachialis muscle
Powerful flexion of the elbow joint
Innervation of brachialis muscle
- Musculocutaneous nerve
- Gets a contribution from the radial nerve laterally
Origin of triceps brachii muscle
- Long head – Infraglenoid tubercle of the scapula
- Lateral head – Posterior surface of the humeral shaft
- Medial head – Posterior surface of the humeral shaft
Insertion of triceps brachii muscle
Margin of the olecranon via the broad tendon
Action of triceps brachii muscle
- Long head – Extension at the elbow and shoulder joints
– Adduction at the shoulder joint- Lateral and Medial heads – Extension at the elbow joint
