Muscels of the forearm ( palm and dorsal) Flashcards
What are lumbricals ?
Four muscles that look like worms
Origin of lumbricals
Tendons of the Flexor digitorum profundus muscles
Insertion of lumbricals
Lateral sides of the extensor hoods
Action of lumbricals
- Flexion at the metacarpophalangeal joints
- Extends the dorsal interphalangeal joints
Innervation of lumbricals
- Lateral two lumbricals by the median nerve
- Medial two lumbricals by the ulnar nerve
Origin of Abductor pollicis brevis muscle (Thenar)
- Tubercle of the trapezium and scaphoid
- Adjacent flexor retinaculum
Insertion of Abductor pollicis brevis muscle (Thenar)
Proximal phalanx and extensor hood of thumb
Action of Abductor pollicis brevis muscle (Thenar)
Abducts the thumb at the metacarpophalangeal joint
Innervation of Abductor pollicis brevis muscle (Thenar)
Recurrent branch of the median nerve
Origin of flexor pollicis brevis muscle (Thenar)
Tubercle of the trapezium and the flexor retinaculum
Insertion of flexor pollicis brevis muscle (Thenar)
Proximal phalanx of the thumb
Action of flexor pollicis brevis muscle (Thenar)
Flexes thumb at metacarpophalangeal joint
Innervation of flexor pollicis brevis muscle (Thenar)
Recurrent branch of the median nerve
Origin of opponens pollicis muscle
Tubercle of the trapezium and the flexor retinaculum
Insertion of opponens pollicis muscle
Lateral margin and palmar surface of the 1st metacarpal
Action of opponens pollicis muscle
Medially rotates the thumb
