Muscles Of Head And Neck Flashcards
Sternocleidomastoid
Origin: Sternum- manubrium
Medial 1/3 of clavicle
I: Mastoid process of temporal bone
Flex neck bilateral
Can unilaterally f(x) so face is directed to opposite side
CN XI
Scanlenus Anterior
O: Transverse processes of upper cervicle
I: Rib 1
Flex neck
Elevate rib1
Branches of ventral rami of cervical spinal nerves
Omohyoid
O: Inferior belly from medial side of suprascapular notch (scapula). Intermediate tendon linked to clavicle and rib 1.
Superior belly continues to insertion
I: Hyoid Bone
Depress hyoid bone
Ansa Cervicalis is the nerve
Sternohyoid
O: Manubrium of sternum and clavicle
I: Hyoid Bone
Depresses Hyoid bone
Nerve: Ansa Cervicalis
Sternothyroid
O: Manubrium & Clavicle
I:thyroid cartilage
Depresses thyroid cartilage, indirectly depresses hyoid bone, larynx
N: Ansa Cervicalis
Thryohyoid
O: Thyroid Cartilage
I: Hyoid bone
Depresses hyoid bone, elevates larynx
N: C1 via branch hitchhiking w/ hypoglossal nerve
Digastric Muscle
O: Posterior Belly from Temporal Bone(mastoid notch which is medial to mastoid process)
Anterior belly origin is inner side of mandible
I:Hyoid bone via intermediate tendon
Elevates hyoid bone
Depress mandible to aid in swallowing
N: Posterior belly is CN VII
Anterior belly is CN V3 or Mandibular division
Stylohyoid
O: styloid process of temporal bone
I: Hyoid bone
elevate hyoid bone
Facial nerve
Mylohyoid
O: mylohyoid line
I: Hyoid bone
Elevates hyoid bone
Raises floor of mouth during swallowing
CN V mandibular division
Geniohyoid
O: Inner side of mandible
I: hyoid bone
Elevates hyoid bone, draws hyoid forward
C1 via branch hitch-hiking with CN XII
Superior Constrictor
O: Pterygomandibular raphe- CT band continous anteriorly w/ buccinator muscle
I: Pharnygeal raphe
Constrict Pharynx
CN X
Middle Constrictor
O: Hyoid Bone
I: Pharyngeal Raphe
Constrict pharynx
CN X
Inferior Constrictor
O: Thyroid and cricoid cartilage
I: Pharyngeal raphe
Constrict Pharnyx
CN X
Stylopharyngeus
O: styloid process of temporal bone
I: thyroid cartilage
Raises pharynx and pulls wall laterally
CN IX
Palatopharyngeus
O: Palatine aponeurosis of soft palate
I: thyroid cartilage
Raises pharynx and pulls down soft palate
CN X
