CNS Vasculature Flashcards
What comprises the circle of Willis
Internal Carotid Artery
Anterior Cerebral Artery
Anterior Communicating Artery
Posterior Communication
Posterior Cerebral Artery
What are the branches of ICA?
Opthalmic Artery
Posterior Communicating Artery
Anterior Choroidal Artery
Anterior Cerebral Artery
Middle Cerebral Artery
What blood vessels supply the cerebral cortex?
Anterior Cerebral Artery
Middle Cerebral Artery
Posterior Cerebral Artery
What blood vessels supply the corpus stiatum?
Middle Cerebral Artery & Anterior Cerebral Artery
What blood vessels supply the neural retina
Central retinal artery
What blood vessels supply the thalamus?
Posterior Cerebral Artery
Posterior Communicating artery
Anterior Choroidal Arteries
What blood vessels supply the midbrain?
Posterior cerebral artery
Basilar Artery
What blood vessels supply the pons?
Basilar artery
What blood vessels supply the medulla?
Basilar artery
Vertebral artery
What blood vessels supply the Cerebellum?
Superior Cerebellar Arteries
Anterior Inferior Cerebellar Artery (AICA)
Posterior Inferior Cerebellar Artery
What blood vessels supply the spinal cord?
anterior spinal artery
Posterior spinal artery
What are basilar branches?
Superior cerebellar artery
Anterior inferior cerebellar artery
Where is posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) derived
Vertebral artery
What does MCA specifically supply?
Lateral Surface of Hemisphere
Medial cortex of temporal pole
EXCEPT dorsal ridge, occipital lobe, inferior lateral temporal lobe
What does the ACA supply specifically?
Supplies dorsal ridge of lateral hemisphere & dorsal part of medial hemisphere up to parietal-occipital sulcus
What does the Posterior Cerebral Artery supply?
Lateral and medial parts of occipital lobe
Hippocampus
Inferior lateral and medial parts of the temporal lobe.
PICA supplies what? (Be specific)
Courses b/w medulla and cerebellum
Lateral medulla which include: Vestibular nuclei Lateral corticospinal tracts Inferior cerebellar peduncle Nucleus ambiguous Descending sympathetic fibers
What are the branches of the Basilar Artery?
Pontine Arteries
Labyrinthine artery
Anterior inferior cerebellar artery
Superior cerebellar artery
Posterior cerebral artery
Pontine arteries?
Branch of the Basilar artery
Supplies pons
PCA?
PCA is from the Basilar artery which helps form the circle of Willis
Labyrinthine arteries
Arises from Basilar in 15% of population
Accompanies facial nerve & vestibucochlear nerve into internal acoustic meatus to supply inner ear
Branch of the Basilar artery
Anterior Inferior Cerebellar artery
Branch of the Basilar artery
Supplies anterior and inferior parts of the cerebellum
Also supplies pons, parts of medulla, cochlear nuclei
Labyrinthine artery arises from AICa in 85% of population
Superior Cerebellar Artery
Supplies superior surface of cerebellum, some deep cerebellar deep nuclei, parts of pons and midbrain
Superior Cerebral Veins
Major external veins of cerebrum.
Emptying into superior sagittal sinus via small bridging veins
They mostly drain blood from lateral side of cerebral hemispheres
