MUSCLES OF FACIAL EXPRESSION Flashcards
Where are they derived from?
Mesoderm of 2nd pharyngeal arch
Innervation of muscles of facial expression
Facial nerve
What are the parts that make up the occipito-frontalis muscle?
Occipital part
Frontal part
Origin of occipital part of occipito-frontalis muscle
Lateral two thirds of the superior nuchal line of occipital bone and mastoid process of temporal bone
Insertion of frontal part of occipito-frontalis muscle
It has bony attachments therefore its fibres blends with orbicularis oculi, corrugator supercilli and procerus muscles
Action of occipito-frontalis muscles
Elevates the eyebrows(surprise)
Produces transverse wrinkles in forehead(Frown)
Pulls the scalp backward and forward
Innervation of occipital part of occipital-frontalis muscle
Posterior auricular br. of facial nerve
Innervation of frontal part of occipito-frontalis muscle
Temporal br. of facial nerve
3 parts of orbicularis oculi muscle
Orbital
Palpebral
Lacrimal
Origin of orbital part of orbicularis oculi
Frontal bone, medial palpebral ligament and frontal process of maxilla
Insertion of UPPER FIBRES of orbital part of the orbicularis oculi muscle
Frontal part of occipito-frontalis and corrugator supercilli
Insertion of LOWER FIBRES of orbital part of orbicularis oculi muscle
Levator labii superioris alaque nasii, levator labi superioris and zygomaticus minor
Action of ORBITAL PART of orbicularis oculi muscle
Closes the lid TIGHTLY and shades eye from bright light
Origin of palpebral part of orbicularis oculi muscle
Medial palpebral ligament
Insertion of palpebral part of orbicularis oculi
Lateral palpebral ligament
