Muscles and Tendons Of LL Flashcards
Explain the function of muscles of the gluteal region
Extension/flexsion and abduction of hip
Gluteus maximums (superficial) Gluteus mediums and minimus Deep gluteal muscles Piriforms Iliopsoas (main flexsion at hip)
Name and explain the function of muscles around the thigh
Divided into 3 sections
Anterior: flexsion of hip and extension of knee. (Femoral nerve)
- quadriceps femoris group
Posterior: extension of hip and flexsion of knee (sciatic nerve)
- hamstrings
Medial: adduction of hip (obturator nerve)
- adductor group
Name and explain the function of muscles in the leg
Divided into three groups
Anterior: dorsiflexsion at ankle, inversion of foot, extension of toes (deep peroneal nerve)
- tibialis major
- extensor hallucus longus (big toe)
- extensor digitorium longus
Lateral: plantarflexsikn of ankle, eversion of foot (superficial peroneal nerve)
- fibularis longus and brevis
Posterior: (tibial nerve) divided into 2
- superficial (plantar flexsion ankle) =
gastrochemius,
soleus
- deep (plantar flexsion ankle, flexsion of toes) =
Tibialis posterior
Flexor digitorium longus
Flexor hallucus longus
What’s the name of the plexus for the lower limb?
Lumbar plexus and lumbosacral plexus
L1-4 = lumbar plexus (anterior and medial thigh)
L4-S2 = (remaining muscles of thigh)
Name the nerves that supply her lower limb
Lumbar plexus
- femoral
- obturator
Lumbosacral
- sciatic (which branches into tibial and peroneal)
Explain the order of arteries thst supply blood to the lower limb
Abdominal aorta External iliac artery Femoral artery Popliteal artery Anterior and posterior tibial artery Dorsalis pedis artery
Distinguish the order of the veins that take blood back to the heart from lower limb
Deep veins
- dorsal Venus plexus
- anterior + post. Tibial vein
- poplitersl vein
- femoral vein
- external iliac vein
- IVC
Superficial veins (these drain into the deep veins)
- great saphenous vein = femoral vein
- lesser saphenous vein = popliteal vein
