Muscles and Nerves Lecture Flashcards
What joints does the biceps brachii cross?
The biceps brachii crosses:
Shoulder joint
Elbow joint
Superior radio-ulnar joint
Where does a skeletal muscle move towards during contraction?
During contraction a skeletal muscle always moves towards its point of origin
What is Hilton’s Law?
Hilton’s Law states the nerve supplying the muscles extanding directly across and acting at a given joint also innervates the joint and the overlying skin
What comparments are present in upper limbs?
Anterior and posterior compartments are present in upper limbs
What compartments are present in the lower leg?
Anterior, posterior and lateral compartments are present in the lower leg
What compartments are present in the thigh?
Anterior, posterior and medial compartments are present in the thigh
What do ligaments do?
Ligaments stabalise joints by joining bone to bone
What is the advantage of plexuses?
Skeletal muscles are controlled by different axons from different levels of the spinal cord, meaning if one area is damaged it doesn’t completely stop the innervation of the tissue
Which rami forms plexuses?
Only the ventral rami forms plexuses, except tharacic ventral rami which do not form them
