Muscles Flashcards
What does trapezius do to the neck both bilaterally and unilaterally?
B neck extension
Uni: ipsi SB, Contra ROT
What does levator do to scapula?
elevate and downward rotate scapula
what does levator do to neck?
ipsi SB and ROT
what does levator resists?
lordotic position of the cervical spine
What does splenius capitus and cervices do?
-large cross section and moment arm
B: Extension
Uni: ipsi rot
What does semispinalis capitis and cervicis do?
extension and contra rotation of head, neck, thoracic spine
what does semispinalis maintain?
lordosis
What nerve pierce semispinalis capitis?
greater occipital nerve
what does longissimus capitis and cervicis do?
B: frontal plane stabilizers
Uni:Ipsi SB
poor extensors due to short moment arm
What does subocciptal muscles do? B/UNI
B: occipital ext
Uni: ipsi rot and SB of occiput on atlas
what are the lateral muscles?
-scalenes (3)
-SCM
what does scalenes do?
ant: B:flex, UNI: ipsi SB and ROT
middle: stablize in frontal plane; uni: SB
posterior: UNI: SB
what does SCM do?
B: flex
UNI: ipsi SB, Contra rot
what are the anterior muscles?
Longus capitis and longus coli and rectus capitis anterior and lateral
what does the longus capitis and coli do?
-can flex but better at providing compression/proprioceptive input
-synergestically work to stabilize head with traps to allow distal contraction of traps on scapula
what does the rectus capitis anterior and lateral do?
B:flex
greater at proprioceptive function
What does the superficial and deep erector spinae do?
s: B:ext
uni: SB/rot
deep: create posterior compressive and shear forces, counteracting anterior shear forces
multifidus? Tspine vs Lspine
T: contra rot and local segmental control
L: extension, synergerstic stabilizer with abs and local seg control
Rotatories and inertransversarii
ipsi: SB
contra: Rot
primarily proprioception role
quadratus lumborum
B: frontal plane stabilization
uni: ipsi SB
rectus abdominius
B: flex trunk
uni: ipsi SB
abdominal wall
muscle corset with thoracolumbar fascia; increases spinal stiffness
transverse abdominus
core stabilization
internal obliques
ipsi SB ipsi rot
external oblique
ipsi SB contra rot
psoas major
hip flexion with spinal stabilizaiton
what can tightness in psoas major lead to?
anterior pelvic tilt which in turn increase compression and anterior shear
