Q

External Intercostal Muscle?

A
  • extends from inferior edge of the rib above to superior edge of the rib below
  • anteriorly the muscles fibres will be replaced by external intercostal membrane
  • raise ribs in forced expiration
  • prevent undraping during inspiration

Q

Internal Intercostal Muscle?

A
  • extends from the lateral edge of costal groove of the rib above to the superior edge of the rib below
  • posteriorly muscle fibres will be replaced by internal intercostal membrane
  • prevent undraping during inspiration, aids elastic recoil by moving ribs inferiorly in expiration
