Muscles Flashcards
gluteus maximas origin
gluteus medius fascia, ilium behind posterior gluteal line, sacrum, coccyx, sacrotuberous ligament, fascia of erector spinae
gluteus maximas insertion
gluteal tuberosity of the femur and the iliotibial tract
gluteus maximas innervation
inferior gluteal (L5, S1,S2)
gluteus maximas action
extension and lateral rotation of the thigh; helps stabilize the knee by pulling on the ilitoibial tract
Obturator internus origin
Internal surface of obturator membrane and the superior pubic and inferior ischiopubic rami
Obturator internus insertion
Greater trochanter of femur
Obturator internus innervation
n. to the obturator internus (L5, S1)
Obturator internus action
Laterally rotate femur
piriformis origin
Pelvic (anterior) surface of sacrum between anterior sacral foramina
piriformis insertion
Greater trochanter of femur
piriformis innervation
Ventral rami (L5, S1, S2)
piriformis action
Laterally rotate femur
Puborectalis origin
Pubis (just lateral to the pubic symphysis)
Puborectalis insertion
Wraps around rectum posteriorly and fuses with partner muscle
Puborectalis innervation
S2-S4
Puborectalis action
Maintains 80° flexure at anorectal junction; Maintains fecal continence; think strap muscle located inferior to pubococcygeus muscle, paired
Pubbococcygeus origin
Suspended off anterior half of tendinous arch
Pubbococcygeus insertion
R and L fuse at midline superior surface of anococcygeal ligament (forms median raphe)
Pubbococcygeus innervation
S2-4
Pubbococcygeus action
forms lateral margin of urogenital hiatus, paired
Iliococcygeus origin
posterior half of the tendinous arch and ischial spine
Iliococcygeus insertion
posterior portion of anococcygeal ligament and tip of the coccyx
illiococygeus innervation
S2-4
Coccygeus origin
ischial spine
