muscle sense Flashcards
proprioception
brains ability to know where our muscles are and what they are doing without having to look at them or be aware of them (ie. walking up steps without looking down)
receptors also known as
stretch receptors/ proprioceptors/ muscle spindle
receptors location
in muscles
function of receptors
to detect changes in length of muscle as it is stretched
sensory impulses generated by these receptors are interpreted by
the brain as a mental “picture” of where the muscle is
it can be taken advantage of because we dont always have to be aware of the muscle
impulses for muscle sense are integrated in
parietal lobes
cerebrum
conscious muscle sense
cerebellum
nonconcious muscle sense
impulses are used to in
coordination
