Muscle Relationships Muscular Module 2 Flashcards
1
Q
What is an agonist muscle
A
is the prime mover as produces the most force during movement. Contracts and shortens and pulls on the bone during the movement
e.g. bicep in bicep curl
2
Q
what is an antagonist muscle
A
works opposite the agonist by extending and lengthening. Relaxes to allow the agonist to work. Often determines the speed and range of the agonist to prevent excessive movement and injury.
E.g. tricep in bicep curl
3
Q
what is a synergist/fixator/stabiliser muscle
A
the surrounding muscles that assist the agonist to maintain stability
