Muscle Fibre Types Flashcards
What is type 1?
Slow oxidative
Endurance fibres
Small fibre and neutron size
Many capillaries and mitochondria
High myoglobin count
Low PC and glycogen stores
What is type 2?
Fast oxidative glycolytic
Speed endurance fibres
Intermediate fibre and neurone size
Many capillaries and mitochondria
High myoglobin count
Intermediate glycogen and pc stores
What is type 2b?
Fast glycolytic
Speed/ power fibres
Large fibre and neurone size
Few mitochondria and capillaries
Low myoglobin content
High pc and glycogen stores
What is the motor unit?
A motor unit neurone plus all the muscle fibres it innervates and it’s function is to carry impulses from the central nervous system to the muscles fibres to initiate muscular contraction
What is action potential?
This refers to the electrical impulse travelling down the motor unit.
All or None law
All of the muscle fibres connected to the motor unit will contract or none will
