What is the cause of acne?
Inflammation of the sebaceous glands, primarily affecting teens, but can occur in adults
Basal cell carcinoma
Slow growing tumor of the skin found commonly on the face. Most common skin cancer.
Squamous cell carcinoma
invasive tumor with a potential for spreading. Slow growing, but may invade the underlying tissue and spread.
Malignant Melanoma
A tumor that grows and may spread through the lymph and blood. Lesions may change in appearance and can progress rather quickly.
Sebaceous glands, location and function
location: skin, Creates Sebum, fats, cholesterol, protein, and inorganic salts. Inhibits growth of certain bacteria, keeps things soft and shiny.
Sudoriferous glands (sweat glands) Location and function
Regulation of body temp by evaporation of water. Functions in the elimination of waste products.
Epidermis Location and two cells found in it
Outer layer: keratinocytes, melanocytes
