Muscle Flashcards
Skeletal muscle
Voluntary; striated
Cardiac muscle
involuntary; striated
Smooth muscles
no striations; involuntary
Sarcolemma
cell membrane
Sarcoplasm
cytoplasm
sarcosomes
mitochondria
Myofibrils
contractile elements
Muscle attached to skeleton via
tendon
Epimysium
dense CT around muscle
Perimysium
dense CT around fascicle
Endomysium
delicate CT around fiber (cell)
Skeletal muscle
needs a lot of vascular supply
has satellite cells
Satellite cells
source of stem cells in adult muscle that can repair damage– why lift less weights when older
When lifting weights satellite cells
proliferate
A band
anisotropic, dark band, myosin
I band
isotropic, light band, actin
Z line
in the center of the I band, sarcomere is from Z line to Z line
H zone
middle of A band
M band
in the middle of the H zone
F actin
filaments of actin embedded in the Z line
Tropomyosin
filamentous protein that fills the grove in F actin and binds Troponin
Subunits of troponic
TnT- binds tropomyosin
TnC- binds calcium
TnI- inhibits actin-myosin interaction
Desmin
intermediate filament located in muscle
TITIN
binds in the Z line and runs to the M line and associated w/ M line proteins and parter from the other size
Provents hyper stretching because of spring like coiling
Action potential coming down and comes to axon terminal
Has a fusion of synaptic vesicles that contain ACH. ACH binds to ACH receptor and opens up Na/K channel and has action potential contraction
Cant have this going on all the time so.. ACH is also being bound to acetylcholinesterase which breaks down ACH
Drooping eyelids (ptosis)
levator palpeerde superioris CNII
Double vision (diplopia)
extra ocular muscles; CN III, IV, VI
