Embalming, Wrapping, Funeral
Embalming
This is when they removed the organs and placed them in canopic jars. The body was then stuffed with linen and natron to make it look life-like. It was then dried for 40 days and covered in oils to smell nice
Wrapping
After embalming, the head and neck were wrapped first, then each toe and finger individually, then arms and legs seperately. Then each layer is painted with glue and amulets placed between them. Isis knot protects the body. Priest reads spells from book of dead, page placed in body arm, a cloth wrapped around, Osiris painting on top, another cloth on top. Wooden board on top of mummy, then lowered into 2 coffins.
Funeral
The ‘Opening of the Mouth’ ritual performed. To allow a person to drink and eat in the afterlife. The body in the coffin is placed inside a large sarcophagus in the tomb. Furniture, Food/drink and valuable items were also placed there.
