The underworld

A

Travel through the underworld to the afterlife. Osiris (chief judge) gave entry. You had to contend with challenges before meeting Osiris - represented death, resurrection and fertilty.

The hall of final judgement

A

Stand before 14 judges to recite 42 confessions to prove pure soul. Weight of the heart measured purity, and would win over Osiris. Anubis -represented underworld and mummification- led person to scale

The weighing of the heart

A

Anubis placed heart on a scale balanced against white feather of truth from ma’at. Heart believed to carry soul and keep record of persons things. If heart is lighter than feather, soul is presented to Osiris to afterlife. If heart was heavier, thrown to the groud to be devoured by Ammut, and soul no longer existed.

After the weighing of the heart

A

Thot stood ready to record outcome. If heart was lighter, Horus led person to Osiris. The Osiris, Isis (wife) and Nephthys (sister) welcomed person to after life.

A

Ancient Egyptians in love with life and wishes it to continue on after death. Life in the field reflected the real world
