visually codes iconic memory and acoustically codes echoic memory
how does information enter
information (environmental stimuli) is detected by sense organs and enters sensory memory. if attended to this info enters stm, if not the memory decays
what happens to info from stm
transers to ltm only if it is rehearsed (maintanence rehearsal)
what happens if maintanence rehearsal doesnt occur
information is forgotten and lost from stm through displacement process
how can info be recalled
info must be retrieved into stm from ltm to be recalled
what is the capacity of sensory register
capacity = millions and billions
duration = less than 1/2 second
