Mu, BL-back Shu, KD-front Shu, Hui pts Flashcards
what is the pathway of the “muddy pill”
*basin of clavicle –> navel / Ren 22 –> Ren 8
muddy pill is received by the basin of clavicle (ST 12 / Ren 22) and travels down the pelvic basin Ren 8 and seals the umbilicus.
The muddy pill seals the wound at Ren 8.
what is the “Muddy Pill”?
mucus plug in the throat, baby swallows “muddy pill” at birth then takes first breath
activates Mu, Shu, Source pts
what starts the combustion of Jing and where is it located?
the muddy pill traveling down to Ren 8 starts the combustion of Jing, housed by the KD
Left KD is ______
the TRUE Kidney
the Right KD is ________
Ming Men Fire
How is the combusted Jing distributed?
it is distributed first through the Mu Pts (through generation cycle), then Shu Pts (in control cycle), and then Yuan/Source pts.
More Dense –> More Energetic
what are MU pts used for?
- can be used for Acute/Excess or Chronic/deficient conditions
- deficiency: tonify yin or yang; for chronic problems, nourishing, self/beingness
- excess; and for Acute problems (popular in TCM)
- Needle to tonify Yin, Moxa to support Yang
- Accumulations: dispersing needle tech or dispersing moxa
what does Mu mean?
- to gather and collect, the energetic - Jing-like, essence of Sang Fu gather and concentrate
- they are located close to the actual organs
describe the energy that fills up the Mu pts
- Mu pts are related to BEINGNESS Of person, to feeling whole and nourished
- brings out memory of the desire to live –> first breath –> jing fills up the Mu
- can be used for accumulation of Yin - feel for “stuck water”, Qi stagnation, nodules
- when pressed and tender = alarm pts - means that something is not right with an organ
what are Shu pts used for?
for both excess or deficiency
- tonifying Yang; disease of deficiency & cold (moxa
- TCM theory suggests use for difficult/chronic problesm
- some classics (Ling Shu) recommended only MOXA for the BL Shu
- Moxa to tonify Yang or Moxa (possibly dispersing moxa or warming to soften) to allow movt in the places where a person’t water/KD qi is stuck / the places a person is having difficulty moving their water (felt as thick accumulation at a BL Shu)
- Needle toward Du Mai to nourish Yin aspect of organ; needle away from Du Mai to disperse congestion or invigorate the Yang aspect of an organ (just be very careful with needle depth). Perpendicular needling is neutral in regards to Yin or Yang
- needling in the direction of the BL channel flow has a greater influence on the BL Channel
Describe the energy that fills up Shu pts
Shu = transport
- shu pts are related to movt and how a person navigates through conflicts, overcome obstacles, confrontations
- sometimes life experiences can lead to water getting stuck at a particular shu pt, which, may alter the way a person mvoes through life.
Mu Points are filled with energy in what order? Starting with which element?
generating (creating) cycle: TIan/Heaven & Earth
begins with METAL –> Water: Lung descends and KD grasp the LU qi
Water disseminates and generates Wood –> Fire –> Earth
BL Shu points are filled with energy in what order? starting with which element?
control cycle
begins with WATER –> Earth –> Wood –> Metal –> Fire
how are Shu pts activated?
From Front Mu of BL (REN 3) –> Wei Qi, first Meridian for Sinew Channels –> energy gathered at this pt descends in Ren 1 –> comes around to Du1 –> fills the holes/liaos in the sacrum –> KD Shu (BL 23 / lowest of Zang-Yin shu pt –? travels up the BL channel and fills all the shu pts.
the pathway of the dissemination of combusted Jing/KD Qi is where?
the San Jiao mechanism
- SJ responsible for dissemination of KD Qi into the BL Shu.
- uses the Control Cycle, bc dissemination needs control
*shu pts below BL 23 are related to bowels that are responsible for getting rid of waste material, and not the circulation of combusted Jing/KD Qi
what should you be careful with when using BL shu pts
don’t overuse, it can potentially deplete yang Qi in the BL channel, or send energy back into Du Mai and cause too much energy to move up the spine
what are KD Shu pts?
the KD channel pts on the chest (KD 22 - 26)
they are each associated with an element in an order that mirrors the BL Shu pts on the back.
BL 13 (metal/LU) KD 26 (metal/LU) BL 14 (fire/PC) BL 15 (fire/HT) KD 25 (fire/PC/HT) BL 16 (Du Mai) BL 17 (diaphragm) BL 18 (wood/LV) KD 24 (wood/LV) BL 19 (wood/GB) BL 20 (earth/SP) KD 23 (earth/SP) BL 22 (fire/SJ distribution of water thru SJ mechanism) BL 23 (water/KD) KD 22 (water/KD)
describe function of KD Shu pts
KD Shu’s release latency from that related element, latency that is being financed (held latent) by the KD.
What is held latent could be emotional but not necessarily just emotional.
ex. latent sadness -KD 26
latent anger - KD 24
