Antique Points Flashcards

1
Q

how is dispersing method done according to Ling Shu?

A
  • insert quick, withdraw slow, leave hole open
  • hold needle tightly & then insert (quickly), when the patient feels the Qi, wave the needle & enlarge the hole, then pull the needle out with a twist so that the “evil energy” can be excreted along the needle

2
Q

describe the tonifying method according to the Ling Shu

A
  • insert slow, withdraw quick, close/press the hole immediately
  • insert the needle “wittingly yet unwittingly, the insertion is advancing yet stopping, and the feeling of the patient is like a mosquito bite on the skin”

Q

what is the energetics of Jing-Well pts

A

exit - external, channel - energy initiates / “issues” out
the qi at the Jing-Wells is the most external, unstable, volatile, shallow & narrow

  • needled when person can’t initiate or move out

Q

what is the energetics of Shu-Stream?

A

Qi has direction, channel-energy “pours”
-these points are the most reactive to needling towards or against the flow / directing energy or pathology toward or away from the body

*needled when person does not know where to go, has no direction

6
Q

what is the energetics of Jing-River?

A

Qi has good momentum and really moves, there’s lots of crossroads and interaction, channel-energy “passes through”

  • tonified when person can’t interact, or has trouble passing through;
  • sedate if there is over-stimulation with world/people

Q

what is the energetics of He Sea?

A

things converge / come together, the channel-energy “gets into”, the energy units & flows deep within the body, the waterway is broad

*needled when person can’t come back to themselves, needs union?

21
Q

what are xi-cleft points indicated for?

A
  • can drive PF into the level of the Bones - Joints, bleed, disperse, or cup & add other points to direct the pathology out of the body (i.e. shu stream + jing well)
  • often used for pain, esp Yang xi-cleft points (disperse)
  • yin xi-clefts can be used to help the Zang hold onto or manage yin-fluids and blood (for leakage tonify, for stasis disperse)
