What factors other than latitude influence East Asia’s climate?
monsoon winds (Indonesia, Thailand, that area), Elevation (Plateau of Tibet), near large bodies of water (Japan, Koreas)

How has physical geography affected the distribution of people in East Asia?
Higher population density in places that have more desirable land
Give two positives and two negatives of the “one-child policy” of China.
positives: more food and water to go around, more jobs available, families have more money and time
negatives: dependency ratio going up, boy:girl ratio getting worse since families would rather have a boy

Describe how Japan accommodates its heavy population density. (land use, housing, transportation, health)
Land use: they build up and down to conserve space/ use it all
Housing: small homes use rooms for multiple purposes and small appliances
Transportation: parking laws, public transportation (fast trains SHINKANSEN)
Health: environmental laws and sick people wear masks
How does the ocean influence the climate in Japan?
ocean currents warm the island
Name two positives and two negatives of the Three Gorges Dam.
positives- clean energy from a clean source, flood control, boats can navigate better
negatives: historical settlements destroyed to build the dam, may not be stable in earthquakes, animals losing their habitats become endangered
Why are the oceans a valuable resource for East Asian countries?
Good for shipping things to other countries also seafood is a big thing there
Why is it essential that Japan start recycling?
since they have so many people and not much space they need to keep garbage to a minimal
What is the Great Wall and why is it extraordinary?
It is a massive wall that was built to protect the Chinese Empire from foreign invaders (longest man made structure in the world)
