MSK - Upper Limb 3 Flashcards
Where are the 4 lumbricals found and what do they origniante from
- Central compartment
- Tendon of Flexor digitorum profundus
Action and innervation of the lumbricals
- Flexion at metacarpophalangeal joint
- Extension at interphalangeal joint (2nd - 5th digit)
- Medial 2 = Ulnar n.
- Lateral 2 = Median n.
How many dorsal and palmar interossei do you have and what innervates them
- Dorsal = 4
- Palmar = 3
- Ulnar n.
What does DAB and PAD mean
- DAB = Dorsal interossei ABduct the figners
- PAD = Palmar interossei ADduct the fingers
Lesion to wich trunk affects the short muscles of the hand
Lower trunk (C8-T1) = Klumpke’s palsy = Claw hand
Which a. is the main contributor to the superficial and deep palmar arch
- Superficial = Ulanr a.
- Deep = Radial a.
What does the ulnar n. innervate in the hand
- Most of the intrinsic muscles
- Except the thenar muscles 1st+2nd lumbricals (median n.)
What segmental fibres do the ulnar and median nerve both carry
C8 and T1
The ulnar n. is the branch of which cord of the brachial plexus
Medial
What part of the palm do the radial, median and ulnar nerves supply (sensation)
- Radial = Thenar eminence
- Median = Thumb, index, middle, lateral half of ring
- Ulnar = Pinkie, medial hald of ring
Ulnar + median also supply the palm in a similar fashion
Name the carpal bones
- Scaphoid
- Lunate
- Triquetrum
- Pisiform
- Trapezium
- Trapezoid
- Capitate
- Hamate
Movements at the wrist joint
- Flexion + extension
- Abduction + adduction
- Circumduction
Combined action of extensor and flexor carpir ulnaris muscle
Adduction or ulnar deviation
What muscles adduct the wrist
- Flexor carpir radialis
- Extensor carpi radialis longus + brevis
How to identify the supinator muscle
- Deep muscle
- Wrapped around the radius (proximal)
- May look silvery
