MSK Flashcards
Blunt trauma to the globe
- Can cause orbital blowout fx
- most commonly involve the medial or inferior orbital walls due to thin bone bordering the ethmoid and maxillary sinus
Most common metastatic tumors to the brain
Lung CA
Renal CA
Melanoma
Melanoma
ABCDEs of melanoma
Focal neurotically deficit suggestive of malignant melanoma metastatic to CNS
Melanocytes are of neural crest origin
Mitochondrial diseases
“Red ragged” muscle fibers are seen. Muscle fibers have the appearance bc abnormal mitochondira accumulate under the sarcolemma. Mitochondrial disease show maternal inheritance
-blotchy red muscle fibers on Gomori stain are characteristic of mitochondrial myopathies
Glomangioma
A benign tumor that can produce very tender, small, red bluish lesion under the nail bed. Originates from modified smooth muscle that controls the thermoregulatory functions of the dermal glomus bodies
Para aortic lymph nodes
Receive lymphatic drainage from the testis due to their intra abdominal origin
Superficial inguinal lymph nodes
Lymphatic drainage from the scrotum; drain nearly all cutaneous lymph from the umbilicus to the feet, including the external genitalia and anus
