Mitochondrial diseases

A

“Red ragged” muscle fibers are seen. Muscle fibers have the appearance bc abnormal mitochondira accumulate under the sarcolemma. Mitochondrial disease show maternal inheritance
-blotchy red muscle fibers on Gomori stain are characteristic of mitochondrial myopathies

A

A benign tumor that can produce very tender, small, red bluish lesion under the nail bed. Originates from modified smooth muscle that controls the thermoregulatory functions of the dermal glomus bodies
