Movement Terms Flashcards
Action
Movement - the way a dog walks, trots or runs
Amble
A relaxed, easy gate in which the legs on either side move in unison or in some breeds almost, but not quite, as a pair. Often seen as the transition movement between the walk and the faster gaits.
Crabbing
The hind legs track outside of the line of the forelegs causing the body of the dog to be at an angle to the line of travel.
Pacing
Movement has a two-beat rhythm where fore and hind legs on the same side move at the same time followed by the other pair.
Will happen if too square or construction faults (or to conserve energy).
Plaiting
Manner of walking or trotting in which the legs cross.
Caused by being forward in front or too narrow (development of chest)
Pounding
Gaiting fault, resultant of dog’s stride being shorter in front than in the rear; forefeet strike the ground hard before the rear stride is expended.
Generally have low head carriage. Short stepping.
