movement skills Flashcards
motor skill
is any bodily movement used to achieve a specific goal
fundamental motor skills
-are the basis of al movement in a sport
-basic patterns learned and mastered young
-the foundation for sport specific skills
fundamental motor skills examples
-kicking
-throwing
-catching
-hitting
locomotive fundamental skill
-enable you to move through space
-running
-hopping
-jumping
-skipping
body control movement include
-balancing
-tumbling
-climbing
sport specific skills
often use a combination of FMS in a sequence to perform a movement
-rebounding a basketball combines jumping, bending, reaching the ball and landing.
classifying skills
either closed or open motor skills
closed motor skill
are performed in a predictable and self-paced
environment.
there are no interruptions to the environment or changes in the surroundings.
open motor skills
are performed in a constantly changing and externally paced environment
proximity of an opponent
more opportunity for error
open vs closed continuum
not all skills are purely open or purely closed. the skills within a game can become more open or more closed depending on the situation.
fine motor skills
involve the use of small muscle group and refined movements
-flicking wrists, handwriting, impacting back spin on free throw
gross motor skills
use of multiple large muscle groups and action to produce coordinated movement
imparting spin on a pitch with fingers.
discrete
discrete motor skills involve movements that are of brief duration and easily defined with a distinct beginning and ending.
-throw, kick OR catch
serial motor skills
are a series or group of discrete skills strung together to create a more complex motor skill.
the duration is prolonged but has individuals movements in the series with distant beginnings and endings.
-gymnastics routine
continuous motor skills
have no clear beginning and ending to the movement pattern
the movements usually last several minutes with repetitive actions.
-swimming, running
constraint definition
a constraint is a limitation or restriction on the performer than can explain and account for the differences in athletic performance.
three main factor that influence movement
-individual constraint
-task-related constraint
-environmental constraint
individual constraint
those that are individual to the performer
invlude:
body structure, fitness level OR genetics
skill learning, attention OR perceptual ability
task-related constraints
what is changed and lead to better technique development
-rules of the game
-equipment used
size and area of playing field
environmental constraint
those that are external to the individual
include:
-weather
-crowd noise
-sociocultural factors
what is the interrelationship?
as motor skills develop, the individual is more likely to enjoy the sport. increasing their participation level, improving their performance.
qualitative movement analysis
preparation stage
=gather knowledge or info about critical features of the skill.
observation stage
=record using technology
evaluation stage
=features of the skill that were established
error correction stage
=verbal feedback, visual model
