Movement In Plants Flashcards
1
Q
What is tropism?
A
This is the growth movement in plants.
2
Q
What is the growth in plants controlled by?
A
They are controlled by hormones called auxins.
3
Q
Where are auxins made?
A
At the tip of the root and the shoot.
4
Q
What is phototropism?
A
This is where the shoot of plants grow upwards towards the light. The auxins move away from the light and accumulate on the shaded area which causes that side to grow more and bend towards the light.
5
Q
What is geotropism?
A
This is where the root of plants grow downwards towards gravity. Auxins accumulate on the lower side of the root due to gravity. The side that is least affected by the hormone grows faster which makes the root grow downwards.
