Movement At The Joint Flashcards
What is extension?
Increasing the angle at the joint
What is horizontal flexion?
A movement at the ball and socket joint when the shoulder is already flexed with the arm parallel to the ground and the shoulder joint moves towards the midline of the body
What is horizontal extension?
A movement at the ball and socket joint when the shoulder is parallel to the ground and it moves away from the midline of the body
What is abduction?
A part of the body moving away from the midline of the body
What is adduction?
A body part moving towards the midline of the body
What is flexion?
Decreasing the angle at the joint
What is rotation?
When a body part turns about its long axis
What is circumduction?
When a body part moves from the anatomical position describing a cone shape. The joint performing stays the same whilst the furthest end performs a circle
What is pronation?
It is unique to the radio-ulnar joint and its makes the palm move to face backwards/downwards
What is supination?
It is unique to the radio-ulnar joint and the palm faces forwards/upwards
What is lateral flexion?
It is unique to the spine and it involves bending the spine sideways
What is dorsiflexion?
It is unique to the ankle joint and this is when the foot moves towards the shin
What is plantar flexion?
It is unique to the ankle joint and it makes the foot move away from the shin
