Motor Testing Flashcards
Name 3 screening tests
Denver II
Harris Infant Neuromotor Test
Bayley Infant Neurodevelopmental Screener
Name 5 tests of motor function
- Test of Infant Motor Performance (TIMP)
- Alberta Infant Motor Scale (AIMS)
- Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM) (Cerebral Palsy)
- Peabody Developmental Motor Scales (PDMS-2)
- Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency (BOT-2)
What are the Basic Methods of Assessment
Parent/Child Interview
History-review of medical records
Clinical Observation in child’s natural environment
Standardized testing
Definition of Age Equivalent
Mean chronological age represented by certain test score
Definition of Criterion Referenced
Based on # of items correct
Definition of Norm-Referenced or Standardized tests
compare one child with “norm” of a group of other children
Definition of Percentile Scores
75%ile=child did better than 75% of children in normal group
Definition of Raw Score
total number of items passed or correct
What are 4 questions to be used as guidelines for selection of tests
- What is the purpose of the test? (Diagnosis, program planning, research)
- Who is the child? (age, suspected diagnosis, presenting disability)
- What concerns need to be addressed? (gross, fine motor, speech, muscle strength, functional abilities)
- What are the examiner constraints? (time, training, space, equipment, money)

Comprehensive Developmental Scales
Looks at the whole child across all areas of development:
- Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development (BSID-III)
- Battelle Developmental Inventory (BDI-2
Assessment of Functional Capabilities
Looks at skills that are essential in child’s natural environment
- The Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (PEDI)
- Functional Independence Measure for Children (WeeFim)
- School Function Assessment
What to do with the eval info:
1) Plan a treatment program
2) Identify areas of progress/ lack of progress
3) Identify and rule out existence of a specific problem
4) Provide diagnostic information
