When should an SLP seek the assistance of a PT?
a child constantly switches play activity, walking asymmetrically, the child favors one side of the body during ambulation, delayed milestones, tight muscles and joints, falls regularly; continuously sitting in a W-shape
What is sensory-motor processing?
Using at least one of the five senses (E.g., touch and taste) to process information from the environment and then send that information to the brain. Then, the brain sends a signal to the muscles to respond
When should an SLP request an OT evaluation?
Poor coordination
Decreased balance (“clumsiness”)
Low/high muscle tone
Decreased strength in extremities
Difficulty with dexterity (e.g., manipulation of toys, eating utensils, handwriting)
Behavior changes or diminished social skills pertaining to proximity to others
Decreased visual perceptual or ocular motor skills
Difficulty tolerating or responding to sensory information
Diminished adaptive skills (e.g., dressing, grooming, feeding)
Inattention (e.g., fidgety behavior, seeking out movement)
Difficulty sequencing common, everyday routines
