What are the goals of assessment?

psychometrics; diagnostic accuracy; cultural and linguistic fit
Norm referenced testing
Identifies individuals performing at various levels; Addresses a small spectrum of content; Distinguishes performance of specific tasks among individuals; Summarizes performance in SS and percentiles.
Criterion referenced testing
Describes specific levels of performance; Addresses a clearly defined specific aspect of language; Covers general aspects of language; Summarizes performance in percentage correct (generally).
