Motivational theiories Flashcards
Friedrick Wilson Taylor’s “Scientific Management”
(he worked in the first Ford factory)
- “honest pay for an honest day’s work”
- sliding scale of pay based on peer review
- setting of hard targets
- standardization of work methods
- forced adoption of “best practices”
- time and motion studies
- skill is largely removed from the tasks
-› lead to several srikes
Theory of x and y
it supposes different things about workers
* theory x
assumes that the workers are lazy, they do not want to be there (mostly factories)
eather motivating them or punushing them to work
* theory y
assumes that you want to work there, you are motivated
eather shaming them or praising them
(mostly white collar jobs)
Maslow’s pyramid
THE HIERARCHY OF NEEDS
you always have to deal with the lower levels, just after that you can worry about the next
the levels (from top to bottom)
* self actualization
* esteem
* love/belonging
* safety
* physiological
Herzberg’s Satisfiers and motivators
examples!
- Hygene Factors
if you have them you don’t think about them, if they are bad you think about them all the time, you might even leave
pl: supervision (boss), policy, working conditions, salary, peer relationships, job security - Motivation factors
the things that push you to work harder
pl: Achievement recognition (positive feedback), the work itself, advancement, personal growth
John Adams’ Equity theory
Inputs: anything you do at work
Outputs: the rewards
everytime you do stg (input) you should get stg (output)
equity and peer comparison
