Q

What is the relationship between intrinsic and extrinsic rewards

A
  • debated whether external rewards undermine or enhance intrinsic motives
  • the desire to win can be both
  • motivation is often a mixture of both
  • too much emphasis on winning can take the pleasure out of taking part
  • Weinberg states ‘rewards do not inherently undermine intrinsic motivation (depends on the individual’s perception)
