What is Motivation
Motivation is what makes a sports performer continue to want to participate in their sport
What is Intrinsic Motivation
Being motivated from yourself, or within
What is Extrinsic Motivation
Being motivated by external factors
What are the 3 parts to Intrinsic Motivation
Accomplishment, Stimulation and Knowledge
What are the 2 parts to Extrinsic Motivation
Tangible or Intangible rewards
What is the Need Achievement Theory
The theory explains why some individuals are more motivated to succeed than others. there are 2 types: Nach- Need to achieve or Naf- Need to avoid failure
What is the Achievement Theory
The theory suggest that goals can be used to lead to differing response. There are 2 types-Task orientated and Outcome orientated
What is the Self-Determination Theory
It states that there are three key psychological needs which must be met if an athlete is to stay motivated
What are the three basic psychological needs of humans
Competence, Autonomy and Relatedness
What is Weiner’s Attribution Theory
Used to explain success or failure in sport. Attribution refers to the different reasons that an athlete may give to explain an event or outcome

Stabilty, Causality and Control
