Motion graphs Flashcards
What is the difference between a distance-time graph and a displacement-time graph?
displacement is distance from a certain point
Describe the motion of a ball being thrown vertically in relation to displacement
immediately after being thrown the gradient is large so it has a large velocity
as the ball rises, it velocity decreases so gradient decreases
at its maximum height, its velocity is zero and the gradient is zero
as the ball descents, its velocity becomes increasingly negative
What does the gradient of the line represent in a velocity-time graph?
acceleration
What does the area under the line represent in the velocity-time graph?
displacement of the object from the starting position
