Motion Forces and Energy Chapter 2 - QUESTIONS Flashcards
How are balanced and unbalanced forces related to an object’s motion?
When the forces acting on an object are unbalanced, a net force acts on the object. The object will move. BUT when balanced forces act on an object, no net force acts on the object. The objects motion remains unchanged.
How can you determine the momentum of an object?
Mass X Velocity
How is a force described?
By its strength, and by the direction in which it acts.
What factors affect the gravitational force between two objects?
Mass and distance
What factors determine the strength of the friction force between two surfaces?
How hard the surfaces push together and the types of surfaces involved (SO Smooth surfaces produce less friction then rough surfaces)
Why do objects accelerate during free fall?
The force of gravity is an unbalanced force.
