Motion Forces and Energy Chapter 2 Flashcards
Force
A push or pull
Balanced forces
Forces that are in opposite directions and equal in size
Unbalanced forces
The total force on an object is in one direction
Fluid Friction
The friction exerted by fluid
Sliding Friction
Solid objects slide over each other
Rolling Friction
The friction produced by objects such as wheels or ball bearings
Fluid Friction
The friction exerted by fluid
Inertia
The tendency of matter to resist a change in motion
Newton’s First Law Of Motion
When an object at rest will remain at rest and an object in motion will remain in motion at constant velocity unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
Newtons Second Law Of Motion
Describes how force, acceleration, and mass are related.
Newtons Third Law Of Motion
States that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Gravity
A force of attraction that exists between all objects in the universe.
Weight
A measure of the force of gravity on an object
Net force
Combination of all forces acting on an object
air resistance
frictional force air exerts on a moving object; acts opposite in direction to the object’s motion, fluid friction acting on an object moving through the air
