Motion and Speed Flashcards
What is motion?
Motion is a change in position when compared to a reference point.
What is a reference point?
A reference point is a point of comparison between an object that’s not moving (the reference point) and one that appears to be moving; often stationary
What is an example of motion?
Answers may vary. Possible Answers: Walking Running Jumping Jacks Flags in the Wind
What are examples of reference points?
Answers may vary. Possible Answers: Tree Wall Floor House
What is speed?
Speed is the rate at which an object moves.
What does speed depend on?
It depends on how far an object goes (Distance) and how long it takes to get there (Time).
What is the formula for speed?
Speed = Distance/Time
What is the speed if the distance is 4 km and the time travelled is 2 hrs?
The speed would be 2km/hr.
What is the speed if the distance is 10 m and the time is 5 seconds?
The speed would be 2m/s.
What is the speed if the distance is 4 cm and the time is 1 second?
The speed would be 4cm/s.
What is constant speed?
Constant speed is speed that doesn’t change.
What are some examples of things that have constant speed?
Answers may vary. Possible answers: Escalator Hands on a clock Earth
What is average speed?
Average speed is the total time it takes to go the total distance.
What is the formula for average speed?
Average Speed = Total Distance/Total Time
What is velocity?
Velocity is speed in a given direction
