Motion Flashcards
Position
The location of an object or place
Describe an objects position using a reference point.
The lamp is on the table
The lamp is next to the chair
The table is under the lamp
Motion
A change in position over time
Speed
How quickly or slowly something changes position in a given amount of time
Velocity
Speed in a specific direction
Acceleration
How quickly something’s velocity changes over time
Vector
A quantity that has both size and direction
Reference point
A location to which you compare another location
Describe the relative motion of an object using a particular frame of reference
- The jetplane is in motion relative to the ground
- The jet plane is not moving or stationary relative to the passengers on the
- The jetplane is not moving or stationary relative to a plane flying directly next to it at the same speed
Define speed
-units
How quickly or slowly something changes position in a given amount of time
S=d/t
m/s. cm/s. km/hr
Solve speed problems
S=D/T Magic triangle. D S x T T=D/S D=SxT
Describe and interpret distance- time graphs
How far something goes in a given amount of time
Distance. Time
Straight diagonal line on a distance- time graph
Constant speed
Straight flat, horizontal line on a distance time graph
Not moving
No motion
Stationary
Stopped
An upward slope on a distance time graph
Increasing speed
