Root morpheme
this is a single morpheme that holds the key meaning of a word. Eg. House is a root morpheme- can have other morphemes added to give the word extra information
Prefix
A prefix is a part added to the beginning of a word or base word. For example un-, pre-, re-
Suffix
A Suffix is a word part added to the end of a word. For example -ful, -ing
Free morpheme
this is a morpheme that can stand on its own without needing to be attached to anything ‘strawberry’ is an example of this
Bound morpheme
bound morphemes are morphemes that need to be attached to a free morpheme in order to have any meaning. Think about the prefixes and suffixes
Stem morpheme
made up of more than one morpheme eg, breaking- made up of break and ing
Infix
when a bound morpheme is added within a word. Most commonly used in English colloquially- “Abso-bloody-lutely”
Inflectional
When a bound morpheme is added to a word and changes its grammatical information. This means it would change the tense or plural of the word
Derivational
Bound morpheme is added and changes or adds meaning to a word. This means the word most likely has its own dictionary definition
