What is a lobby group?
An organization that used various firms of advocacy to influence public opinion and government functions
Try to influence the outcome (in good and bad ways)
Protected by the 1st amendment right to perition

What do advocacy groups lobby for?
A certain cause (medical, legal, religious, social) (NAACP, AARP, usually acronyms)
What do trade organizations lobby for?
A certain company or industry (oil, tobacco)
What do unions lobby for?
Workers (teamsters, UAW)
What do PACs organize to do?
Elect or defeat a certain candidate (super PACs)
What would many lobbyists do before lobby laws?
Shower gifts on politic tons without restrictions (no limit)
What had the biggest influence corruption scandal I US history?
Jack Abramoff dcandal
What rules were added after Abramoff?
States began to impose limits on lobbyists
