What is a waxing crescent moon?
A waxing crescent moon is partly, but not half of the moon is lit up with direct sunlight. The fraction of the moon’s disk that is lit is increasing on the right side.
What is a new moon?
A new moon is when the Moon’s unlit side is facing towards the Earth. Here on Earth, the moon is not visible. The moon is right between the Sun and the Earth.
What is a first quarter?
A first quarter is when half of the moon appears to be lit up. It seems as if the right side is lit up with sunlight.
What is a waxing gibbous?
A waxing gibbous is when t appears to be more than one half lit with direct sunlight.
What is a full moon?
A full moon is when the lit side is completely facing the Earth. The moon appears to be completely lit by direct sunlight.
What is a waning gibbous?
A waning gibbous is when it APPEARS to be half lit but not completely. The fraction of the moon’s disk is decreasing.
What is a last quarter moon?
A last quarter moon is when the moon appears to be lit with direct sunlight on half on the left. The part that is lit is decreasing from the right.
What is a waning crescent moon?
A waning crescent moon is when the moon appears to be partly but less than half lit up.
