A
- no appetite
- sore throat/swollen lymph glands/splenomegaly
- fever
- lethargy

A
patient will be on standard precautions because it is only spread via direct contact with saliva or blood

A
avoid contact sports/athletic activities for 4-6 weeks because the enlarged spleen may rupture

what are symptomatic treatment options for a patient with mono?
A
- NO aspirin
- administer antipyretics, antipruritics, and analgesics
- dim lights and keep child out of sun
- notify child’s school of the infection

A
- calamine lotion for topical relief
- keep skin dry and clean
- dress child in lightweight loose clothes
- change linens daily
- good oral hygiene
