Monocular Depth Cues Flashcards
How many monocular depth cues are there?
8.
What are they?
Linear Perspective
Relative Size
Texture gradient
Horizontal Plane
Light and Shadow
Interposition
Motion Parallax
Clarity/Brightness
What is Linear Perspective?
Lines angling towards each other. Eg. Looking down a train track or hallway.
What is Relative size?
More distant objects look smaller.
What is Texture gradient?
The further away something is, the less texture is visible.
What is Horizonal Plane?
Things that are further away appear to be higher up than things that are closer.
What is light/shadow?
Helps us to know when things are in 3D.
What are the two types of Binocular depth?
Binocular dispartity: Each eye seeing a slightly different imagine due to the position on our face.
Convergence: the closer something is to our face, the more our eyes turn in.
What is Interposition?
When the item in the background is blocked by the item in the foreground, meaning the item in the foreground is closer.
What is motion parallax?
Things seem to move faster is they’re closer, and slower if they’re further away (think about a care driving past).
What is Clarity/Brightness?
The further away something is the darker and hazey it is.
