Monitoring/Data logging Flashcards
What are the features of Sensors & Uses?
Measures physical variables than analogue data. Computers only use Analogue data.
What is an Analogue to Digital Converted (ADC) used for?
It converts analogue to digital data. It isolated computer from electrical problems in sensors/connecting wires.
What is an Digital to Analogue Converter (DAC) used for?
It converts Digital to Analogue Data. It isolated computer from electrical problems in sensors/connecting wires.
How can computers collect data about physical variables?
Computer connects to sensors through ADC (analogue to digital converter) - This is data logging. Can be used stored, processed, analysed, displayed, used in reports or presentations.
What are the typical sensors called?
Light.
PH.
Temperature.
Sound.
What is an example of Computer Control?
Temperature of a swimming pool can be controlled by a programmable computer system.
How does computer control of a swimming pool control the temperature?
- The temperature is pre-set by user.
- Sensors continually send analogue data to ADC.
- Computer reads digital data & compares it to pre-set temp.
- If temp lower than pre-set, computer sends digital data to DAC, converts to signal to switch on heater/motor.
- If temp higher than pre-set computer sends digital data to DAC, converts to signal to switch on heater/motor.
- Sequence Repeats.
