Molecular Biology Flashcards

1
Q

Definition of molecular biology/Molecular medicine

A

What is Molecular Biology?
* The science of life at the molecular level.
* Study of the molecular basis of life including the biochemistry of
molecules such as DNA, RNA and proteins
* Study of the molecular processes that take place within the cells of
living organisms.
Molecular Medicine:
* The understanding of health and disease at the cellular and
molecular level
use of this information to design new approaches to,
- promote health
- prevent, diagnose, cure and treat disease
(eg. include gene therapy, DNA- based testing, vaccine design)
 Precision medicine - treatments better tailored to individual patients
